Lithos jolted with a gasp, awakened by the cold floors of the Technologies Sector hallway against his face. He heaved again for air, scrambled to his hands and knees under the weight of his backpack, and bolted for his life; for the lives of everyone he held dear, and for the lives of everyone else. His legs were phasing through numbness and into pins and needles with every impact against the shining floors. Static threatened his vision. The whine in his ears threatened everything else.
